Social Marketing Strategy for Fair and Sustainable Kenya

This social marketing strategy for Fair & Sustainable Consulting (F&S), aims to promote the adoption of insect-based feed among Kenyan farmers. The aim is to promote sustainable and profitable agricultural practices, addressing issues such as inequality and youth poverty.

F&S’s target audience includes Kenyan farmers, particularly those aged between 18 and 35, open to innovation, eager to learn and motivated by profit and success. So, to achieve this goal, I developed a social marketing campaign: Farm Smarter, Earn Better.

The proposed social marketing strategy

My campaign aims to raise awareness on the topic of alternative feed through model farmers who share their experiences and the positive impact of insect-based feed on their farm. My strategy makes great use of television commercials and social media platforms, such as Facebook and YouTube, to spread information and showcase success stories.

In my strategy, I focus on consideration and adoption of behavior. Therefore, it is necessary to involve model farmers to provide guidance and support to those interested in adopting insect-based feeds. To do this, I have designed educational workshops, where  participants acquire the necessary knowledge and skills. Additionally, I suggest personalized consultations to assist farmers in embracing innovative farming techniques.

On social media, farmers are encouraged to showcase improvements on their farms as a result of adopting innovative farming practices, becoming inspiring examples themselves. Furthermore, the strategy includes collaborations with key organizations in the agricultural sector, such as Rainforest Alliance and Jomo Kenyatta University, to further promote positive outcomes.

The key messages of my campaign highlight the significant improvement in farm profitability and competitiveness through insect-based feed. Indeed, by implementing these innovative practices, farmers can overcome economic pressures and contribute to poverty reduction.

To measure the effectiveness of my campaign, I track metrics such as social media reach and interaction, workshop attendance and feedback, and the number of farmers adopting insect feeds and showing improvements on their farms.
